Ivonne Duarte-Peña

Sanctions Lead, Political Affairs Officer
United Nations Office of the Special Envoy for Syria
Ivonne is the Sanctions Lead at the UN Office of the Special Envoy for Syria. She advises UN leadership in Geneva, New York and Damascus on all aspects of US, EU and UK sanctions on Syria and covers other sanctions programmes including Russia, Iran and counter-terrorism.

Ivonne is an expert on the use of economic statecraft as a leverage tool in diplomatic and conflict resolution contexts, with a decade of experience as a UN Political Affairs Officer. She has undertaken off-the-record briefings on sanctions and de-listings for world’s leading press outlets and the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson. Ivonne is a Certified Sanctions Specialist and was a member of the ACSS Task Force on Export Controls.
